BELLS
A two octave set of Schulmerich
hand bells was donated to the church by Irene Rector Bryant in the 1970’s in
memory of her late husband, Eldin F. Rector. In the 1980’s Irene, together
with Baker Bryant, donated a further set of bells to complete the third octave.
These bells are in memory of Elizabeth B. Bryant.
New life was injected into the
bell choir ministry with the arrival of Peggy DeTombe. Coming to London with many years of bell choir experience at her Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, New York, she reorganized the choir and developed the current philosophy of using
adult ringers and parent/child combinations. The choir has three husband/wife
teams, a parent with two children, and during Peggy’s tenure: a grandmother,
daughter, and granddaughter. Peggy also donated a three octave set of Malmark
hand chimes.
The Bell Choir rehearses on
Thursday evenings, 7:15 – 8:00 p.m., September through May, and performs every
two months during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Members of the Bell Choir
also join the sanctuary choir for performances throughout the year. The Bell Choir
Director is Christine Yost who also serves the church as assistant organist.
